WORKING AT MKG

MKG, with offices in NYC and LA, is actively looking for an Associate Environmental Designer to join our team in NYC. In this role, you will learn about the industry, MKG’s processes and grow from playing a supporting role to taking on more and more ownership on projects.

Candidates are expected to reside within commuting distance of the office and be available for in-person collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

This position will begin with a three month short term position before converting to full time.

Salary Range: $59K-$70K
***This is the minimum + maximum base salary that we, in good faith, are willing to pay at the time of the posting. Salary commensurate with experience.

WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE:

  • Support in the creative development and execution of all 3D design elements on a project (small to large scale), including thorough floor plans, accurate 3D models, and polished renderings for presentations
  • Execute 3D design elements within projects under the guidance of Mid or Senior level Designers, implementing direction given and paying close attention to both internal and external feedback.
  • Take ownership of design scope on smaller projects, with oversight from more senior team members.
  • Actively participate in initial brainstorming sessions to contribute creative ideas and insights.
  • Contribute to design conception phase by pulling images for mood boards, developing initial sketches, etc
  • Attend and support at site visits / surveys to gather measurements and information essential for project planning and execution.
  • Generate detailed floor plans to visualize spatial arrangements for an effective guest flow. .
  • Source props, furniture, and decor elements as per project requirements, ensuring alignment with design vision and budget constraints.
  • Assist in the creation of build lists for fabrication, ensuring accurate and timely procurement of necessary materials.
  • Support on simple graphic treatments and print file preparation as needed.
  • Work within established brand style guides to ensure consistency and coherence in design outputs.
  • Learn about fabrication processes and costs associated to begin designing with awareness of budgets
  • Provide on-site support during load-ins, ensuring smooth execution and installation of designed elements.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THIS ROLE:

  • Degree or experience in Industrial Design, Environmental/Exhibition Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or related fields
  • Strong portfolio showcasing spatial design work, from school internships and/or professional experience
  • 1+ years of professional experience in related fields, internships can be included
  • Professional experience working with existing brands is a big plus!
  • Skills in concepting and designing physical environments, sets, and displays
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) and 3D programs (SketchUp).
  • Proficiency in rendering programs (Podium, V-Ray, Twinmotion, Enscape)
  • Hand sketching skills are a plus
  • An eagerness and openness to learn
